How To Choose Candy For Halloween Trick-Or-Treaters That Will Delight All The Kids, Yet Still Passes Parental Inspections!
When children go out trick-or-treating on Halloween night, their interest lies primarily in collecting lots of treats – the more the merrier! Unfortunately, however, there are some questionable and, quite frankly, evil people, handing out candies which can make your kids really sick, or even worse. Each year at Halloween, it’s really quite shocking to me that I read stories of kids who have eaten a ‘bad’ treat, sometimes with disastrous results. It’s a real worry.
It’s precisely for this reason, that more and more parents are now inspecting each and every treat in their kid’s Halloween trick-or-treat bag for candy wrappers which may look as though they’ve been tampered with, or individual homemade treats, such as homemade cookies or bars wrapped in saran wrap.
While probably about 99% of people giving out out treats for Halloween are doing so with good intentions and with no evil intent whatsoever, parents still can’t be too careful.
So, when you, yourself, go to buy candy for Halloween, there are a few ways to ensure that the kids you give the treats to, can safely enjoy eating them, following that important necessary inspection of a careful parent.
Maybe your Halloween cookie or brownie recipe makes a really awesome treat, but it’s probably best saved for your own kids, or to serve at a Halloween party in your own home. When you buy store-bought candy for Halloween, it’s best to stick with the packages of commercially produced candies, which are individually wrapped and individually sealed. Then it’s easy for parents to see if the seal on the candy is intact, or, if its been tampered with.
Another really important point to consider when purchasing candy for Halloween, is that many kids are allergic to nuts. So it’s best to avoid these as an allergy like that can even be life-threatening if the child eats nuts.

Now that you know what candy to buy and what kinds not to buy, a unique and fun way to distribute candy for Halloween is with a Halloween tree! You can find these at craft stores – they’re undecorated trees, made of ordinary branches, sprayed with a metallic paint or traditional Halloween colored paint, with a sturdy base to support the tree. You then decorate it yourself with things like a string of lights, or a string of popcorn to add a festive touch.
Ahead of time, make up some small plastic bags filled with some of the individually wrapped candy like the ones I mentioned above. As the kids grab their bags of goodies, hang a new batch of bags from the branches. Both the kids and the parents will appreciate your effort!

I never let my children have the homemade halloween treats, you just never know. Not even fruits such as apples. Just good ole halloween candy that can easily be inspected.
